Paislee Grace

So goes the birth story of sweet Miss Paislee Grace 6/27/13

On Wednesday, June 26th, around 2:30 AM I started having stronger contractions that were hurting in my back.  I timed a few of them but they were very sporadic so I got up and walked around for a bit trying to get them going.  I was getting kind of excited thinking maybe this was it!!  I had been losing my mucus plug since Monday, seeing brown and blood tinged mucus after almost every bathroom trip.  After walking around upstairs for 15-20 minutes I came back down and laid down on the couch to try to sleep….but I couldn’t sleep, so I got my kindle and looked at the Internet for awhile.  Finally at 6am or so I got back in bed and told Roy to listen for his phone that I had been having stronger contractions and what I thought was some back labor.  He kissed me goodbye and told me to call him. I was finally able to sleep until about 8:45 and I felt okay.  Roy called and I told him I was doing fine so far that I would call him if anything changed.  I got up, got dressed, and got the kids and I some breakfast then we headed to the park so they could play and I could walk.  I really wanted to get my labor going on my own instead of being induced on Friday.  I walked for about an hour and had some good contractions, but they never did get steady.  I was feeling a little more pressure in my pelvic region all day.  I had contractions throughout the day that were more painful, but never regular just here and there.  When I would use the bathroom sometimes I would see blood, but according to everything I read it was okay as long as it wasn’t more than a teaspoon, and the baby was moving normally.   Alicen, Melanie, and I went and got a quizno sandwich for dinner then went to Maurice's to find Melanie a new dress.  Then Alicen and I went and got a shaved ice with ice cream, it was yummy.  It was a fun night to relax and visit.
I came home and got ready for bed and helped Roy get Kyson and Kadence in bed.  Stetson went and spent the night with his cousin Dauthen.  We finally got in bed and I slept fine until about 3:30...Then my contractions started up again, this time they were about 10-15 minutes apart, but I was so tired from not sleeping the night before that I slept as much as I could and never really did time them.  I went and got back in my bed at 6:15 and Roy made sure I was OK and that it was OK for him to go to work.  I tried to sleep but I couldn’t.  At 7 am I started writing them down.  They were coming every 5-12 mintues…at 8:00 or so they were steady 10-11 minutes apart but for some reason I still was unsure if I was in real labor or not.  Roy wanted me to hold out til Friday so he could finish his work.  I was doing my best to ‘hold out’.  I got out of bed about 8:55 and helped my kids get breakfast and clothes on.  I couldn’t eat anything.  I decided I would try to shampoo the recliner…I got frustrated with that and finally called Roy at 9:15 in tears….I told him I didn’t know if this was it, I wish my water would break so I would know for sure this was labor.  He asked if he should come home, if this was it, he said I’m coming home I’ll be there in a few minutes, I told him wait, let me shower and I’ll call ya back.  I showered and got dressed, contractions every 4-7 minutes or so.  I did Kadence’s hair and mine the best I could…this was IT I decided.  I had the kids go get in the car and I called Roy, and told him come home we better go to the hospital, he said I’ll be there in a few minutes.
We raced up the Andrea’s to get Stet, Andrea knew I was in Labor and in trouble.  She begged me not the drive home, to have Roy pick me up, leave the kids, don’t go anywhere, don’t drive.  I assured her I was OK, I was OK I would make it.  I went home having horrible contractions all the way, I shouldn’t have been driving.  I had also called Darla on the way to get Stet and she was sending my dad to get the kids.  I followed him down Vernal Ave and got to my house at the same time.  THANKFULLY Roy was home, he came out as soon as I got here with my bag and camera.  I had him get me some ice to chew and away we went.  Andrea had called him at 10:12 to see if I had made it home…we probably got there and left by 10:15...the race to the hospital was on, my dear husband knew I was in trouble…we were in trouble…this baby was coming.  He called the hospital as we were heading out of town to warn them we were on our way.  “I’m bringing my wife she is having contractions every 2-3 minutes, her water hasn’t a broke, Dr is Nolte.”  They said they would be ready.  He asked me if I was OK although he knew I wasn’t.  I was in HARD labor.  I told him to turn on the flashers and drive as fast as he dared.  We weaved in and out of traffic all the way, he was gripping the steering wheel and going at least 75-80 and sometimes as fast as 95.  We were both trying not to panic.  I prayed all the way, please let us make it.  I said to him at one point ‘you better pray my water doesn’t break, or this baby is coming out!’  I’ve never been so scared in my whole life, somebody was definitely watching over us.  Once we got to the Ute store, we got in the turning lane as far as we could go, then when we were in one lane traffic seemed to be crawling.  By the time we go to hilltop my contractions were right on top of each other, it was so painful and so intense, I was crawling up the seat and hold my legs together through every one.  We got to Roosevelt and two lanes again, Roy weaved in and out of cars and we were lucky to hit green lights.  He said we are almost there…we got in the parking lot of the hospital and as I recall I said ‘Oh Gosh, its coming!’  We parked in the emergency parking and Roy ran in for a wheel chair.  He came and got me, we made a quick check in, all the while people were watching and staring at us.  He ran me down to labor and delivery and thankfully a nurse was going in and held the door for us.  We rushed in and the nurse knew immediately who we were and directed us to our room LDR 10.  I got up and stripped my bottoms off, got on the bed and pulled my shirts off.  Nurse Stephanie was amazing, she told me to slow my breathing or I was going to pass out.  Roy said he had to go park the car and dashed off.  He said he got out there and the door was still open with my purse on the seat and the car was running, of course there was no where to park so he parked across the street, grabbed my bag and camera, got coming back and went back for the phones.  Meanwhile, another nurse came in to hold a monitor on my belly for baby, two more came in with the baby bed and Stephanie told someone in the hall to call Dr Nolte right now!  She checked me and said I was complete, as she is watching she said ‘this baby is going to be born in the sack!’  My water still hadn’t broke!  Just as the doc came in my water then burst all over and the baby’s head was coming.  The pressure and pain was horrible!  I screamed a couple times.  Dr Nolte was told my husband ran to park the car, so he was asking me if I wanted to push or wait, OK wait, its ok…I kept pushing my legs out instead of pulling them back, they told me pull them back or I was going to tear.  I was trying to get away from the pain without pushing!  Another contractions and Dr Nolte said lets get you out of the pain just push!  They got my legs in the stirrups and the nurses were wonderful to help me pull them back, I got my mind set on pushing and pushed just two times…my perfect, beautiful baby girl came out dark purple and was flopped up on my belly…just as Roy came in…he missed the delivery by mere seconds.  I immediately said I was so sorry I was trying not to push!  He came to my side and said it was OK, he was just glad we made it!  He then got to cut the cord.  The baby bed wasn’t warmed up and ready yet so they took my bra off and put baby directly on my belly and chest to keep warm and put a warm blanket on us.  She was so purple, but just beautiful with the most precious little face and beautiful dark hair-lots of hair-I just kept saying how pretty she was.  Roy took some pics and then they took her to the bed and got oxygen on her and she pinked up right away.  Darla got there about ten minutes after delivery…She cried…we had gotten the most perfect, precious, beautiful little miracle baby.  The nurse, Stephanie, told Darla don’t cry or I will start crying, she said I had done so good.  Later Stephanie told Roy when he called she couldn’t tell he was panicked and this was serious.
We called my dad to bring the kids and I was able to get up and walk down to the nursery to see the baby weighed and measured, it was so fun.  Her exact weight was 7lbs 15.7oz, so we rounded it up to 8lbs and she was 19 ½ inches long.  JUST PERFECT!  Her head was I believe 33 cm.   We sure love our little peanut, our three older kids smother Paislee with hugs and kisses all day every day.
